Artsimovich Memorial Lectures

The first technical session of the Seventh International Conference on Plasma Physics and Controlled Nuclear Fusion Research at Innsbruck from 23-30 August 1978 was called the Artsimovich Memorial Session to commemorate Lev Andreevich Artsimovich. In this way the International Atomic Energy Agency sought to celebrate one of the most effective, talented and far-sighted contributors to the search for the realization of nuclear fusion. An IAEA Conference was appropriate for this memorial not only because of Artsimovich's contributions to the conference series - especially to the First and Third - which were of significant importance, but also because his contributions to international co-operation in the field of fusion (and other fields as well) were outstanding.
